Really, it was Annie's fault.  She got Martin and Jay and herself together to jam as The Church Keys, then quietly ducked out a few months later.  Matthew joined up as spastic guitarist extraordinaire, but we needed a bass.  Shawn gave it a shot (and to his credit came up with "Vagina Vagina Vagina"), but ditched us for a life of travel and adventure.  After much searching, Russ turned up.  After Russ' first practice, Jay remarked that "it might help if Russ actually played along."  At the next practice he did, and there you have it.

Who are all these people?  Here's who:

Jay Sargent plays guitar, sings, and writes some of the songs.  When he's not doing those things or collecting old obscure vinyl, Jay works on his career as an internationally-exhibited artist.  Lately he's been working through his love/hate relationship with Alan Parsons.

Matthew Rump plays guitar, sings, and writes the rest of the songs.  He is also the Master of Feedback. Look on, ye mortals, and despair!  We suspect that Matthew is the secret love child of Mark Edwards, but he's not saying.

Russ Rybicki plays bass guitar.  Russ first picked up the bass nearly 25 years ago.  In his free time, he works at being an industrialist, which involves coming up with clever alternatives to health care benefits for his employees, amongst other tasks.

Martin J. Drabik sits behind the drums and hits them now and then.  Martin dreams of writing more songs, but he shot his entire artistic load on "Caesar Salad" with his previous band.  Among his current projects is an in-depth study of the beverage industry of Kentucky.

Our name?  Yes, it comes from the Fall song.  Matthew astutely pointed out that we need to be a "The" band these days, and so we are.  The name works on so many other levels as well, even though only one of us is a computer geek.  And that wouldn't be Jay.
